It appears that pulling up the zoom tool with the keyboard requires a specific sequence of keys. Simply pressing OPT+CMD+Space in any sequence will not give you the means to zoom out with a click. Only by grabbing the spacebar will you be able to zoom out with a click.

Is there a reason for this? You'll have to excuse me for this, I've been using Illustrator for 30 years.

Hi @Drexus and welcome to the forums. It's a bit confusing because it doesn't work consistently for zooming in. Zooming out is always Cmd -

  • If the cursor is not in a text object, press Cmd = to zoom in (don't hold Shift)
  • If the cursor is in a text object, press Shift Cmd = to zoom in

This is a known issue that hasn't been addressed yet.
