dirtylilfingers Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Hi, all. Earlier this afternoon I attempted to transfer a Designer file I've been working on into Photo for some raster work. I selected 'File > Edit in Photo…' in Designer, and Photo launched as expected, but as it opened I was prompted to update to Photo version 2.5.6. I dutifully accepted the prompt, thinking that the file I'd been working on would appear in Photo after its update had finished. Photo relaunched automatically once the update completed, but the file I sent there for editing never appeared, and neither was it back in Designer. I've looked through the autosave files in %USERPROFILE%\.affinity\Designer\2.0\autosave and %USERPROFILE%\.affinity\Photo\2.0\autosave, but none of those files is the one I'm looking for. Any ideas of other locations where the file might have been deposited in transit? Thanks! Quote
walt.farrell Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Welcome to the Affinity forums, @dirtylilfingers. Sorry you've experienced that, but unfortunately I'm afraid that file is gone. You must decline the invitation to update in that scenario. (Note, too, that in general it is safest to Save, then use "Edit in", because there is always a possibility that something will go wrong in the transfer process.) I'm not sure if this is logged as a bug, or if there might be an enhancement requests associated with this. The application should not, in my opinion, offer to update when you're using "Edit in". When using File > Edit in... The document is temporary saved at... %appdata% > Affinity > Common 2.0 > Migrate with a ".afmigrate" extension This file appears to remain even when closing all Affinity apps (Not tested if it's still there after a PC reboot) Note: The file will not initially show in a File > Open dialog within the Affinity apps unless you change the search parameter to *.* or use File Explorer to find it This is on Windows using the MSI/EXE version of the app. I have no idea where it may be when using the MSIX version or on MACs etc walt.farrell 1 Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum.
