1. Application: Photo 2, purchased licence

2. Current Release Version: 2.5.5

3. Can you reproduce it? See screen shots, can be reproduced, happens during update process.

4. Does it happen for a new document? Not applicable.

Operating system and version: Windows 10
Hardware Acceleration: Have no idea how to tell this, can't find Preferences

Turn on Photo 2, prompt to update to 2.5.6. Click Install. Update runs for a little while:

Crash occurs after a short period of update process. Photo 2 closes and the following message is displayed:

Restarted Win 10 twice and tried with the same results.

I am able to click "Not Now" and able to continue working in 2.5.5.

Ctrl+click on the app's icon, from the pop-up menu leave only the Disable Hardware Acceleration box ticked.

Thank you Nick, I just tried that:

After clicking clear, Photo 2 loaded and asked to install.  It still failed. 😢

You could also try downloading the full 2.5.6 installer from the Serif website instead of using the update process. Just make sure you pick the same type of installation as you have now - click the arrow on the Download button to see the four choices.

I too am having problems with the new version 2.5.6o n Windows 10.  After several minutes of use (and lost work), the app simply stops working and hangs with an hourglass.  It does not go back to responding.  I've worked on the same project THREE times.  I uninstalled and tried a fresh install and it did no good.  Hate to go back to Adobe, but I have things I need to get done.  Never had this problem in all the years I've been using Affinity Photo on this PC.

Thanks Mike, I was thinking of that. However, Daryl's post concerns me:

Thanks for posting that, Daryl. I think I am going to hang tight with 2.5.5

Thanks everyone.  I just got back to this post b/c I abandoned my Win10 PC and started working on my Win11 laptop to get my work done.  I'll go back tonight and see what results I get with the new update to 2.6.  Unfortunately, my main computer which is Win10 is apparently unable to accommodate Win11 so if I can't get 2.6 to work, then I'll have to drop a couple grand on another PC (thanks Microsoft 🤬)
