TonyS3 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 As it is black friday week I purchased a few add-ons. Ian Barnard's grid builder looked really useful to me, but after buying it I can use them in the pixel mode and see them in vector mode However, they are applied as a brush in pixel mode and I would like them to an editable( using the node tool) grid in vector mode (this is what I thought I was buying) Does anyone know how to do this? I tried to convert to curves, but it simply deleted the grid Quote
GarryP Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 You can make a grid from rectangles by using the Quick Grid functionality. If you can share a document we can tell you what you have got. P.S. There isn’t really a “pixel mode” or “vector mode” where you are restricted as to what you can do, you can manipulate pixels or vectors in any View Mode. Quote

I have created meshes before, but this package gave me a set of pre-configured grids which is convenient and saves time - if they are editable and usable as vector grids. I have painted a gird on this document (the add-ons are brushes)_ and want it as an editable grid in vector mode. Grid.afdesign Quote
GarryP Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I can’t open that document because it’s been saved in a newer version of the software than I’m using. If you are using the beta software, when sharing documents please share a document saved in the latest commercial release as not everyone is participating in the beta programme. If you are using Windows then this might be of some use: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/143089-new-12-free-vector-tools-for-windows-10-users/ Quote

This is the latest non-beta version grid 2.afdesign Quote
GarryP Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Thanks for the new document. Because the design is on a Pixel Layer, as you mentioned, it might not be easy to edit. I would recommend creating the design from scratch using the Shape tools. I’ve attached a quickly-made example using a Donut, a Cog and an Ellipse. donut-cog-ellipse.afdesign Quote

I guess I can draw a set and save them as some sort of templates, then copy the layers in when I need them. Quote
GarryP Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 I’ve never used Ian Barnard’s Grid Builder stuff so I’m not the best person to give any advice for using it. It might be useful but it’s sometimes better to create what you need yourself, if it’s easy enough to do, so you have total control over what you get. Someone else might be able to advise better.
