Thanks for the suggestioin, Ron.  It is unchecked.

Not sure why, but the .cr2 file in my original screenshot now displays, but one I opened a few minutes ago didn't show after shutting down Affinity Photo and then starting it again.

Restarted the program again and the most recent cr2 file shows, but the earlier one is now showing just an icon!  I opened another image then closed Affinity Photo.

Restarting again, the latest image is just shown as an icon:

It seems there must always be one image that just has an icon:

OK, I understand.

But the function "Open Recent" in AFPhoto seems to be buggy:

When I use File/Open Recent and there is a file in the list which does not longer exist, I get a warning when trying to open it. But when clicking on File/Open Recent/More..., all recent files are eithe opened in list view or as bigger tiles (as in your screenshots). Files that does not exist anyore have of course no thumbnail, but when double clicking on such a file, the "Recent" window just closes with out a warning about the not exiting file.

Maybe Serif should rework this.

Otto

Hi mopperle,

that happened to me when I had relocated some files that appeared in the Recent list.  From the top menu: Files>Open Recent>Clear empties the list, but of course, you lose the ones that do still exist in their original location from the list.

There is clearly something not quite right with the Recent window as I'm still getting, for a random .cr2 file, just an icon (for a file thast does still exist):

I don't seem to be having this issue on my Dell desktop running Windows 11 Pro. Two .CR2 files were opened and closed. Affinity was closed and re-opened and the previous two files showed the two .CR2 thumbnails.  However, the bottom three 'blank' files do not exist, they have previously been deleted.  Does this indicate there is some random software issue?

No, as those files are also listed when you just click "File/Open Recent". The list shown also contains files that do not longer exit. But this is a normal Windows behaviour, happens in other programs too. The problem, as I desribed above is, when you click on a blank/no longer existing file there comes no message about the missing file.

My apologies, I missed the line you posted earlier "..Files that does not exist anyore have of course no thumbnail, but when double clicking on such a file, the "Recent" window just closes with out a warning about the not exiting file..."   I have exactly the same result. I am not, however, having the issues with .CR2 files as described above.
