Hey, I was working on a poster this morning. After a few hours of work, before I wanted to export the file, I noticed something was maybe accidentally deleted. I wanted to use the history panel to copy it and paste it into the latest version.

From what I remember, as long as we don't make any changes, we can still get back to the original position. To make sure, I also copied the elements of the latest point before using the history panel.

Then I went back and copied the stuff from the past history. However, then i noticed the (future?) history disappeared, and I could only go to an even earlier version, not my latest version.

Then I tried to paste the elements I copied before, but it only pasted as an image, so I couldn't change the effects, and all the layers were gone.

Does anyone know how I could return to the latest version? Can anyone confirm if we can't click on the older version or copy things from the older versions without getting stuck in the past?

And does anyone know if the stuff we copied before  was deleted, will it not be able to paste the element's layer, style, effect, etc.? Like in this case, just an image?

Welcome to the forums @yorubox :)

I think you need to click on the Cycle Future icon

Quote from Affinity Online Help:

Quote

Cycle future Cycle future—appears where the history was changed, storing all of the original edits associated with that 'branch' of the timeline. If you want to revert to an old redo history after making a change, click the Cycle future icon beside the point in the timeline you wish to revert to in order to go back to your preferred redo history. You can click this again to toggle between the different series of edits you made beyond this point.

If attempting this in the future you may want to check out the snapshot function in the snapshots panel (APhoto and Designer)

You can effectively save your current work before doing something back in the history that may cause future issues
