Designer versions before 2.42 can update fonts to the latest font content in real time, but after 2.42, it is no longer possible to update fonts in real time. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I restart the Windows system and it can be updated once. This is very important for font designers. I have not been able to create with the new version because this function has not been fixed. I made two versions of the video for comparison, hoping to see the restoration of this real-time font update function in the new test version.

To avoid such issues, and font cache issues, use the FontCreator Test Font button (F5) to temporarily install the font.
It adds a suffix to the font name of a random five digits.
This unique font name will appear in the Affinity font menu.

Installing multiple versions of a font is asking for problems.

It appears from your video that you are repeatedly installing the fonts in your User Fonts folder, and ignoring the warning about the font is already installed.
When a font is installed, and in-use (locked), Windows will add a number suffix (_0, _1, etc.) to the font file name, and install that additional font file (as the correct file according to the Windows registry).
So you end up with multiple font files for the same font in the Fonts folders.
Which is probably what is in your User Fonts folder.

Affinity appears to scan the Fonts folders, and will find the multiple font files.
This causes problems.

Clean-out your Fonts folders and use the FontCreator Test Font (F5).

Thank you for your professional advice. Before Designer 2.4.2, the software itself defaults to the latest version of the same font. I hope Designer can still keep the previous real-time update function. At the same time, I will also adopt your suggestion and use F5 to install the test font. Thank you again@kenmcd

Forum hint: to "tag" another user:

  1. Type the @ sign.
  2. Start typing their username.
  3. Select the proper user from the pop-up list that you get. If the list is too long, type more letters of their name to shorten it.
  4. Then you will get a field that loos like this: @aji not one that looks like this @aji or this @aji, neither of which will do anything.

Hi @aji i use typeface app and @Floor is the owner/developer i think and works great with affinity apps, even with auto-activation (it's working well with 2.6 beta apps). If you have the font in your library but it's not activated it will automatically auto-activate it for you when you open your document and will deactivate it when you close the app that triggered this auto-activation. I'm using it almost a year and i really like it to manage my font library (i've had problems before for having a lot of active fonts) You might want to take a look.

Edit: Sorry, my fault just after writing i've seen you have Windows and Typeface app is just for Mac, i will keep the post because it could help others. For you (Windows) i reccomend Fontbase.

Hello dcarvalho84,

I've been looking for a good font manager for Mac for a long time.

I have a MacMini M1 (16GB RAM / 512 GB SSD) with macos 15.1.

Are there any other users of Typeface APP here in the forum?

Can you recommend the font manager?

@deepblue I can give you my opinion because i've used Rightfont for 3 years (since version5) and now i'm using Typeface app for almost a year.

Both are great, in my work one thing i've used a lot in rightfont, besides the font management was the svg icons, that Typeface doesn't have but i've a Raycast extension that let me do this, so no problem. I think another advantage of Typeface is the sync with google fonts, i have the library almost always up to date without any effort. Another one is the price. Typeface app is more affordable, let you use the app in all the macs you have, and if you want to renew the license to continue receiving pro updates it has a good price for that. Rightfont is now with 30% discount but you need a license for every Mac you own. So if you ask me, go for Typefaceapp you won't regret.

(I'm not sponsored by typeface app but i'm available @Floor 🤣)

I've been very pleased with Typeface also.

Hello dcarvalho84,

I've now tested the current version of Rightfont and Typeface. The Typeface 3 APP for the Mac is super fast and I think it's perfect for my purposes.

Both programs definitely have their advantages and disadvantages,

although I really like Typeface a lot.

"I think another advantage of Typeface is the synchronization with Google Fonts"

Unfortunately, I didn't really find that in Typeface.

Is it easy to synchronize Google Fonts?

Thank you again for your recommendation.

I'm going to test Typeface 3 for another 15 days and then buy it. Thank you dcarvalho84
