Holger Spiegel Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Hi, I currently encounter a strange problem. I bought new add ons in the affinity store. A LUT pack and some brushes. I tried to install the brushes using various ways. Automatic syncing shows no errors but the brushes do not appear in the brushed panel (no matter which persona selected). I can deinstall and reinstal my previous brush sets (some of them also add ons) successfully using the account syncing window. When deinstalled they are lacking in the brushes panel, once reinstalled they come back. The newly bought brushes seem to sync but they dont show. If i download them and go through import brushes the programm gives an error message indicating that no compatible brushes have been found in the file..Very strange. After the purchase the new brushes appeared for a short moment in the panel, then Affinity Designer V2 crashed and after restart the brushes never showed again no matter what i try, I have done several restarts as well as reinstallation of Affinity Designer 2. Do you have any suggestions? Quote
KarinC Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 IF they are raster brushes you have to install them through Pixel personal. Install vector brushes in Designer persona. Quote

Install vector brushes in Designer persona. I don't think it matters, and it hasn't mattered for me. You'll need to be in the right Persona to see or use them, but not to install them. 11 minutes ago, Holger Spiegel said: If i download them and go through import brushes the programm gives an error message indicating that no compatible brushes have been found in the file It would be helpful to see a screenshot showing the Brushes panel, but I think the internal file(s) holding the brushes have probably been corrupted and you have no brushes installed at the moment. The fix for that is to perform a partial Reset of the application: First, make sure none of the V2 Affinity applications are running. Press and Hold the Ctrl key while you start Designer 2. When you get the Clear User Defaults dialog, release Ctrl. Uncheck the first 3 items in the list, and check Reset Brushes. This will reset all the brushes for any of the Affinity V2 applications. Click Clear. After that, you should have the default brushes installed, and the Account dialog may install additional ones from the Affinity Store (depending on your configuration and purchase history). Any others you'll need to manually install again. For what little it’s worth, it has never mattered for me when using the desktop version of Designer on Windows but it has always mattered when using Designer for iPad. If I’m in the wrong persona when installing brushes in the iPad app, I don’t get an error message but they aren’t available for use when I switch to the persona where I expect to find them. KarinC Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 I thought I read on the forum here that you had to be in the correct persona to install brushes. Glad to hear on a PC, at least, that this isn't the case. It makes it much easier since sometimes I don't know if a brush is vector or raster. I stand corrected. Quote
PaulEC Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 One thing I'm not sure about regarding installing brushes: I usually install them in Photo, by dropping them onto the work area, and they are then also available in the other two apps. But, as far as I can tell, this isn't always the case. I don't know if it's something that has to be enabled/disabled, or why it happens with some brushes and not others, or if it depends on how they are installed. KarinC Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 I've installed all of my raster brushes in Designer's Pixel Persona through the brush panel's install brushes. I just checked Photo (which I don't use very often) and they are all there. Quote

As mentioned in the Brushes help topic, in the 'burger' preferences dropdown, there is this Link Category—makes the currently selected category available in all your Affinity 2 apps. But I have never quite figured out if or where there is some kind of default that enables it automatically. This is what I'm not sure about. Some brush sets seem to be available in all the apps, while others only seem to be in one. Maybe it depends on when they were installed (as in, before the linking was introduced). It's not a problem, as I rarely use brushes (other than the basic brushes) in anything but Photo!
