Problem Saving and opening files from iCloud drive (split)

Does there happen to be any update / fixes with this issue?   I thought I'd add my experience here, also, since my errors went a bit further.  I have recently began to have the same issue.  This is the 3rd incident.  It began only a couple of weeks ago. I've had no updates or changes made to my Mac. I'm working in Affinity Designer 2.5.5, on MacBook Pro M1, still running Sonoma.  All files are on my internal drive.  When I opened the resource manager, it is completely empty. The file I'm trying to save was originally created 2 days ago.  I used the workaround that involved copying work to a newly created file. However, I wanted to compare the aesthetics between the two files, but when I attempted to open the original file, I got an error saying the document was created in Affinity 1. I don't have AD v1 on this computer, so  I went to my old 2013 MacBook, that does have v1 on it and tried to open the original file there, but I got another error, advising the ext .afdesign was not recognized.  Fortunately I use Time Machine and was able to pull the original from there.
