Anonymous Puddle Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Title says it all. How can I achieve what I can do in Designer using the symbols panel? With the symbols panel, I can create a symbol, which I can paste elsewhere and all other instances of that symbol will be updated as the original symbol is updated. For my purposes, I have an 8.5x11" document in Photo, and my design only takes up half of the document so that I can have a copy (one on top, one on bottom) and then cut it into two flyers when I print it. But how can I achieve automatic and dynamic updates like I can do in Designer with the Symbols panel, instead of having to manually copy, paste, and move the design to the other slot each time I make an edit? You could create two files: one with your design that you edit when needed, and another for printing (8.5x11") where you place twice your 1st file, placed as linked file (menu Window > Resource Manager). Check also that your settings are like that, so it will update itself: Anonymous Puddle 1 Quote Affinity Suite 2.5 – Monterey 12.7.5 – MacBookPro 14" 2021 M1 Pro 16Go/1To I apologise for any approximations in my English. But how can I achieve automatic and dynamic updates like I can do in Designer with the Symbols If you want to see a copy of your layout next to your layout and get that copy updated with changes done to the layout, you can try this workaround: Place this Affinity document as a linked resource in the free half of your layout. Activate the auto-update option marked by @Oufti. Then, when you save the document, unsaved changes will be updated in the placed copy and a pop-up message will inform you about the update. Means, you need to trigger the update by a 'Save' action (but you will save anyway, right?) However, if your goal is just to print a layout twice on a sheet you don't need to create a page with 2 instances of your layout but can use the N-Up print option in the Print dialog window. For instance: Anonymous Puddle 1 Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6
