Publisher: Way to placed linked via drag and drop?

Is there a way to place linked via drag and drop (I tried several Hotkey Combos). Or is there a global preference toggle? I am aware of changing the file-handling in Resource Manager. Also, is there any visual indicator that lets me know which is which, without having to open RM?

Ah, they made this a per-document preference. I checked settings, but didn't look here. Thank you.
