When I create a table of contents, each reference to a designated Header 1 within my book shows up on a different page, such that the TOC is strung out across multiple pages with only one line per page. Does anyone know what’s happening?

Hi @Rubber Dukky and welcome to the forums.

Edit the TOC 1: Heading 1 style (or whatever it's called) and click Flow Options in the left pane. Try changing Start from whatever its current value is to Anywhere. You might have enabled the feature that starts each new instance of a paragraph with this style to start in the next column, frame, or page. Setting it to Anywhere will allow all of the paragraphs to exist in the same column.

Good luck
