rpaul Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 So, I just got a new iPad M4 and it's pencil. I wanted the double tap feature to toggle between paintbrush and eraser. However, the double-tap feature doesn't seem to work with the paintbrush. I did change the paintbrush menu option to eraser in the Pencil Setup screen, but when I go back to my project, double-tapping just lays down a couple faint paint marks on the pixel layer. Double-tapping does work in View mode, however, zooming it to full screen by default. I tried it on my old iPad pro, and it didn't work there, either. I'm kind of thinking that it was disabled or made harder to implement because it would interfere with the actual painting process too much. But I did want to try it, at least. I did find out that the new pencil can be squeezed. That feature currently brings up the menu at center screen. Maybe there's a way to utilize it differently? Any advise helpful. Paul Quote
walt.farrell Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Just to make sure you're expecting the right behavior: the double-tap setting controls what happens when you double-tap on the flat side of the pencil with your finger. It is not related to double-tapping on the screen with the pencil tip. rpaul Posted November 17, 2024 Author Posted November 17, 2024 Insert imogi of hand palm bouncing off forehead. Thanks Walt, for covering the initial bases. I've been working with first generation of Apple pencil since 2017 and haven't had much time with the new setup. Guess I need to read some more. incidentally, another thing that kinda threw me off was that double-tapping on the screen does work for the View tool. Quote

You're welcome If you're referring to double-tapping on the image with the View Tool, that seems to be an undocumented Zoom-to-fit feature that is not configurable. This Help page documents the others, but not that one: https://affinity.help/photo2ipad/en-US.lproj/pages/GetStarted/pan.html On my iPad, for example, the Photo Settings for the View Tool say that a double-tap will be an Undo, and that is indeed what happens when I double-tap on the flat side of the pencil near the tip. But double-tapping within the image will also do a Zoom-to-fit when the View Tool is selected. JodyC Posted February 7 Posted February 7 The double tap feature must also be turned on in Settings/Apple Pencil on your iPad. walt.farrell 1 Quote
