2nd_Opinion Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 I hate to say it but Affinity Photo is a useless piece of stuff when it comes to photo editors. In fact, it fails completely as a photo editor. Why? Because it is INCAPABLE of accurately rendering colors as evidenced in the attached file. Whenever I attempt to edit a photo in this useless application and get the photo to where I like it and export is, EVERY other application yields colors way out of whack. What good is a photo editing application that is incapable of accurately rendering colors? It's like the app itself is color blind. And, before anyone chimes in, YES I changed the color space to the recommended sRGB IEC61966-2.1. The end result? Zip! Nothing! Same old, same old. See the image below for yourself. This is a screen grab of Affinity Photo rendering a photo of flowers and plain, old, humble Irfanview rendering the same image. There is simply no way to make use of this app in any workflow. Worse, there is NO WAY to adjust the color space for the application ITSELF! On Windows 11 you have to set the color space for the entire machine an HOPE that Affinity Photo uses it. Useless. Obviously you're entitled to your opinions, but it might be a good idea to check your facts before having a rant about something! If AFPhoto was as bad as you make out, I very much doubt that so many people, both hobbyists and professionals, would be using it on a daily basis! 2nd_Opinion Posted November 16, 2024 Author Posted November 16, 2024 To begin, there was nothing offensive about my language. Was I ticked? Absolutely. There is nothing I can find to make Affinity Photo render colors identical to every other program on my computer, Windows 11. PaulEC, you seem to have found a solution. Can you reveal what you did? I didn't "do" anything, that's just a normal comparison between the same file displayed in Affinity Photo and Irfanview. As you can see they are virtually the same. I tend to leave the colour settings at their defaults on my PC, monitors and in the software. I would suggest that you check the colour settings in Affinity Photo. Edit > Settings > Colour. 2nd_Opinion Posted November 16, 2024 Author Posted November 16, 2024 I was wrong. You guys were right. Thank you, David. It turns out it was a quirk in setting the correct color profile in Windows. I did change the profile at the system level and restarted my computer but to no avail. In fact, my settings were identical to what you posted. However, at the bottom of the Advanced tab I clicked on Change System Defaults and was surprised to see that my old color profile was still selected!!! Thank you, Windows! I changed the profile back to sRGB and this time it took. Thanks, again! HCl and PaulEC 2 Quote
