Ward574 Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Hello. I'm using Publisher to generate electrical diagrams. I know there are better suited tools out there, but they are expensive, vertical leaning curves, inflexible, don't play nice with obsolete parts (not being in any symbol databases), etc.. I work for a company that deals with a lot of very old machinery which cannot/will not be replaced, only refurbished. So I am labelling wires, parts, etc. It is tedious editing the text fields with an incrementing value. Can I get a text field variable that auto-increments by some value (usually 1) for every instance that appears in the page/section/document? Then when I copy and paste an object which includes such a field, it will increment the last used value by 1? Quote
MikeTO Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 There's already a feature to do this: Create a label formatted as a numbered paragraph with the global list settings (aka a running list) - refer to my manual for instructions but in summary, select Global, give the list a name, and set Restart Numbering to Manual Only. To create a new label with a higher number than all the previous ones, make a copy of the last label To create a new label with a number between two existing ones, make a copy of the number lower than the one you want to add - Publisher will It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Ward574 Posted November 16, 2024 Author Posted November 16, 2024 That works..! Clunky as hell, but it does actually work. Thanks! Can we consider this to be a feature request still, but using a custom variable / text field? Quote
Ward574 Posted November 16, 2024 Author Posted November 16, 2024 This is blowing my mind.. Thanks! Quote
