So i made a mask from this image using the smart pen tool. I have used this many times before without this problem. I first created a curve with the pen tool and choose line width 0, then selection and then a mask layer from that selection. But still, i get a cut out line from where i draw with the pen tool, even when the line width is set to 0… Why is this happening?

It looks like you used two copies of the same image, and added a mask to the lower, and the inverse mask to the upper layer.

This unfortunately creates a semitransparent line where both masked area touch. This is by design, not a bug.

the best way is to deactivate the mask on the lower layer, as the upper layer covers unwanted parts.

if you want to mask out parts completely, add another mask on top of both layers (not nested).

alternatively,

  • add a levels adjustment on top
  • choose alpha channel
  • set white level to zero

this will restore partial transparency to full opacity.
