Bradley M Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 For a short while I was finding the new AI Object Selection tool very useful but then after one of the recent updates to Affinity Photo Beta it stopped working and says I need to be running an Apple silicon device. Nothing has changed on my Mac which is running the latest OS and the AI tool was previously working. It only stopped when my beta version of Affinity Photo was updated. Also in Settings the Machine Learning Modules referred to in the latest tutorial, is not there. Hoping someone at Affinity can resolve this. Quote
Staff MEB Posted November 14, 2024 Staff Posted November 14, 2024 Hi @Bradley M, Welcome to Affinity Forums We have removed support for Intel based Macs in the latest Beta since it was causing issues. Here's the respective note about the change (end of the first post): COMPATIBILITY: Sorry but due to the functions we need to run the Object Selection and Subject Selection functionality, the Machine Learning features are only available on Apple Silicon iPads and macOS devices (and those need to be running on a recent macOS, as Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey do not support the required calls). Machine Learning will run on both Windows x64 and Arm64 hardware running Windows 10 or Windows 11. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
JAS44 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 The tech specs on your 2.6 update object selection page indicate that it will run on Intel. Perhaps you should modify this and make it clear that it will not run with Intel chip Quote

Perhaps you should modify this and make it clear that it will not run with Intel chip I did think that as well... it is included under the Full Feature list when clicking on the 'Learn What's New in 2.6' link but I think it would be helpful to include a footnote on the main page as well to avoid any confusion... Intel compatability Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Is this a permanent change re intel processor non compatibility or will the object selection tool become available in the future on intel based iMacs once problems referred to above are resolved? Quote

Intel processors lack the Neural Engine cores that are necessary for AI computing. This means that there will be no AI-supported functions for Intel Macs and older iPads. Bradley M Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 What puzzles me is I have two intel MacBook pros and was happily using the object selection tool in the AffinityPhoto Beta version before it was abruptly turned off. I'd be interested to know how PhotoShop gets around this? Quote
Egamrit Posted February 21 Posted February 21 AI-based object selection tool in Capture One works perfectly well on Intel Macs. It's a bit disappointing that currently it doesn't work in Affinity, so hope to see it here soon. Quote
