bbrother Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Publisher 2.6.0.2831 beta is missing the vertical line down the middle in preview mode dividing the spread into left (verso) and right (recto) page. In version 2.5.5 this line is displayed in the preview mode. This is a regression. This line helps maintain a sense of page boundaries and orientation when viewing the layout in preview mode. It is thin and neutral in color, which minimizes its visual impact. It really provides a helpful hint without distracting too much from the main content in preview mode. Please fix this.🙏 Please beware of such changes in behavior that no one has asked for before. As far as I know, no one has complained about preview mode and this line being distracting, I haven't seen any reports about it. If you really want to change something for the better, introduce an option to customize the preview experience to the user's preferences. The ability to choose what is displayed in this mode. I don't understand why they could be visible for many years and now they are not and why you favor the voices of some users over others. It was enough to approach it professionally and offer an option that allows you to customize what is displayed in the preview similarly to how it is in InDesign. This is not the first such bad change. I am speechless. Another small step discouraging your software. What are the chances that these lines will return to the preview mode @Jon P? ronnyb 1 Quote

If we are considering optional things for the line between pages, it might be nice to have the option to display a kind of ‘shadow’ – with the size being relative to the number of pages – between the two pages showing what the book might look like when it’s open, just so we can see if the inner margins are large enough. It wouldn’t need to be accurate – different bindings and paper weights will give different results – but just something for a quick check to see if it’s looking reasonably okay or whether something will be obviously obscured. See attached image for an example – red arrow points to what I’m suggesting. Quote

I don't need such things like shadows. I just need some non distracting subtle elements that will maintain page borders and orientation in the preview, that's it and the thin line in the middle was perfect for that. ronnyb 1 Quote

Why wont you go all in and suggest some kind of fancy animation, for example for turning pages. Jeez, what's going on here? This is such a waste of time. Quote

To me it’s a waste of time asking for a line down the centre of the spread in Preview Mode, so I could say the same thing about what you have been asking for. If you are okay with dismissing other people’s suggestions out-of-hand then it might be reasonable for you to accept that other people might do the same for your suggestions. Quote
Oufti Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 @Return I'm not sure to understand what you want to demonstrate: In your screencast, I see the desired dividing line between each page, wether Preview is toggled on or off. It is very beneficial to be able to Preview spread division. Don’t take away functionality many of us depend on. Affinity already suffers from very poor UI visibility (ie, tiny UI font size, we’ve been BEGGING for larger adjustable font size for YEARS)… Please STOP making things more visually confusing and less usable, or at least give us the option to tailor our workspace the way we want to… Thanks for your consideration and everything you do.
