What are your tried and true methods for working the multiple language design files?

Currently we have 11 languages with multiple designs per language. At present, I'm working with a single 'master file' for each design (business card, banner, etc) and duplicating the original master layout for each new language.

  1. Do you have a file for each language, or one file with all languages?
  2. If you have one file per language, do you keep a 'master asset' file that contains symbols of logos, text styles, or special elements?

My current process, when it comes time to export, is selecting the corresponding language artboard, doing a file > export (to pdf usually), setting the color profile needed, then saving the file with a simple naming scheme "Business Card  <Language> <design-version> <approval-date>". I usually have to do this for the front and the back, then open a combiner tool (like PDF24 for example) to combine each individual page into one file.

I have toyed with the idea of switching to a single file per language, that way I could export the "whole document" at once. But then keeping the logos, swatches, fonts and font styles becomes a larger task. (this goes back to point 2 above).

One thing that takes a lot of time with my current process, is I cant just select the artboard and have Affinity (designer) automatically have that artboard selected. I have to re-select a named export area each time. Many times I forget to do that, and end up with a huge document with all the arboards in one instead of just the one I'm looking for.

Thank you for that video on States and Queries, I had been wondering if there was something like that available. That's a fantastic feature!

Do you, or anyone else, know if it is possible to create export persona variables based on document queries?
