MikeTO Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Create some text, format it with a style such as Body, and override that with a variety of character attributes including some Typography attributes. Reapply the same paragraph style or apply a new one and all the character attributes will be cleared, as they should be, except for the Typography attributes. Those will survive applying a paragraph style. This isn't new in 2.5.5, it worked this way in 1.10, too, and it's also this way in the 2.6 beta. This issue came up in two forum threads this week. kenmcd Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 IIRC InDesign leaves all manually applied stuff alone when simply clicking on the new style. And if you Control-Click the new style it removes everything and applies the only the new style attributes. This method was discussed/requested here in the forum previously, but I cannot find it again. Quote

With ID, applying a paragraph style doesn't clear overrides and you have to choose Apply "Style Name", Clear Overrides. With Affinity, applying a paragraph style does clear overrides and you have to choose Apply "Style Name" to Paragraphs and Preserve Local Formatting to not clear them. The bug I'm reporting is that applying the style (without using an optional "Preserve" command) is supposed to remove all character and paragraph overrides except for character styles and it's removing all except for the typography attributes. This appears to be an oversight. The reason this is discussed rather frequently in the forum is because Affinity offers six ways to apply a paragraph style and IMO this is about three too many because even though I've documented these commands in my manual I can never remember the difference between Preserve Character Formatting and Preserve Local Formatting. I have to think about it each time so I've given up on trying to keep them straight in my head and just don't use them. sfriedberg and kenmcd 2 Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.6 for macOS Sequoia 15.5, MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) and iPad Air (M2)
