I have spent hours and hours trying to find a solution to this, hoping someone can help!

See attachment for visual reference. Here's the issue:

* I need to nest multiple text boxes and images WITHIN a single text box on the Affinity Designer iPad app.

* On the desktop version of Affinity Designer, this is as easy as copying and pasting items inside a text box.

* However, this simple cutting and pasting procedure does not work on iPad. BUT...

* When I use the iPad app to OPEN a file created on the desktop app, the nested text box in the desktop document is still editable on iPad. HOWEVER...

* I can't for the life of me figure out how to reproduce the procedure on the iPad app, by itself.

* See attached image. How do I reproduce this layer structure on iPad from scratch?

I am an Adobe veteran new to Affinity. It's weird to say, but the whole reason I got Affinity Designer was for this one, very specific functionality, which is not available in Adobe Illustrator. I need it for a project and am hitting one dead end after another. If anyone can help, I will be forever indebted to you!

Desperately,

PF

Welcome to the Affinity forums, @Pierce F.

It would help if you shared the .afdesign document you're showing us in the screenshots.

@walt.farrell I have attached a desktop-version file along with a screenshot of how the layers look.

If I open the desktop file in the iPad app, I can manipulate the nested layers, but I cannot recreate them.

I have bene scouring tutorials, videos and forums for some way to reproduce this on the iPad. Is there any way to do this?

Unfortunately there are differences what can be done on iPad. The copy/paste function for text frames is one of these areas. It is long known that you can’t paste anything except test into them.

You found another variant falling in this category. I will add this case.

  • text on path with pasting images not working

Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3

Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080

LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K

iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589

Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps.

I use iPad screenshots and videos even in the Desktop section of the forum when I expect no relevant difference.
