Kelly Bellis Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 RE: Publisher v2.5.5 Is it possible for Preflight to be set to ignore spelling errors in all URLs? For example, ignore any uninterrupted string that begins http ... and then finally coming to a space? Quote
GarryP Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 If you edit the Preflight Profile you can tell the software to ignore Hyperlinks – see attached image. If that doesn’t do what you want then there might be something else in there that will. Quote
Kelly Bellis Posted November 8, 2024 Author Posted November 8, 2024 Thank you Gary for your suggestion, but isn't a link's validity determined by it being able to successfully reach the URL? Quote
GarryP Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 Unfortunately I don’t know how the software determines the validity, or otherwise, of hyperlinks. Maybe someone else can help with that – I knew that the functionality was there, so thought I'd point it out in case you didn't, but I don’t have much experience of using it. Or, maybe there's a way to tell the Spell Checker to ignore anything with a certain prefix or pattern - someone else might be able to help with that too. Quote
MikeTO Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 URLs that are visible in your document will be spell checked just like any other text. To exclude URLs from spell check, edit your hyperlink character style and set Language > Spelling to None. Good point, and I also don't know what is actually meant by 'invalid' so I tried deliberately messing up the link, both its displayed text and its embedded hyperlink, but the error was never kicked up in Preflight. Note that no text in this document formatted with the hyperlink style will be spell checked now, so if other hyperlinks are words instead of URLs and you want them spell checked, you should create a second hyperlink style for the ones you don't want spell checked. From the help file... Hyperlink to Invalid Anchor (anchor name)—appears where a hyperlink's anchor is missing or has been deleted. Hyperlink to Invalid Page—appears where a hyperlink's target page is missing or has been deleted.
