If you are doing forty separate stacks, I don't think that batch can help. Batch jobs still need manual selection of images, so even if you added a macro for it, I don't see how it would be any different from using the Focus Merge function. Caveat: I do a lot of focus stacks but I have never needed to learn how to use the batch job tool.

Not apropos, just interesting; but your numbers threw me a bit for a moment because they are sort of the opposite of my output. For me, 200 frames will mean that I'm making four or five stacks.

I couldn't find this even in photoshop 🤷‍♀️

For the time being, I'll be stacking em manually. I'll share a solution if I find one.

I'm scanning small objects (photogrammetry).
A part of them is always out of focus so I'm using Focus Stacking. 5 images per angle.
