barbBear Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Hi, In pursuit of a pattern creation tool, I'd like to be able to create a "tile" and then have the program stitch the tile together to fill an area - similar to a color swatch. Older versions of Adobe's Illustrator used a background "clear" box to define the pattern area. Later versions allowed "stepping" the tile design in various geometric configurations. The pattern's tile could also be scaled as content inside of a "parent" shape. I often use patterns within packaging designs. I have worked with Designer's symbol feature; however, it is a little difficult to control. A vector pattern feature would be a nice addition. This older book does a good job of describing pattern creation as used in fabric creation. Art3LT Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 Thank you barbBear for this link. Like you, I have an interest in designs. I weave textile bands from time to time and it is always interesting to me how people come up with a particular design. Quote
sbgraphic Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Thanks for sharing this book. For anyone interested, I recommend to check www.madpattern.com which share a super tool (.ai file) to explore multiple type of pattern described here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallpaper_group#The_seventeen_groups I know that you can handle simple patterns in Affinity Photo with symbols and other tips, but I wonder and have to find some time to see if it's possible to mimic such "madpattern tool" in Designer... would be great ! barbBear Posted November 15, 2024 Author Posted November 15, 2024 Thank you for the resource. Wonderful! I have been working with pattern creation and replication for many years. While I was pretty comfortable with exact pattern creation using Illustrator, I'm having more challenges with precision and quick, reliable 'stepping' using Designer. I will forge ahead, tho. : ) Quote
