Hi! So in Affinity Photo, I'm trying to create a grid of rectangles to be used as the basis for creating a bunch of slices, what I wan't to be included is the rectangle itself with no fill but with the edges, and the layer underneath. All works great except that the slices created doesn't slice through to the layer underneath, only the rectangle itself is getting exported. I thought the creation of slices cut through all the layers and not just the used the selected object layer for the export?

Welcome to the forums @hallogallo

If you create a Slice from a layer, via the Layers Panel, the slice will only include that layer and its child layers.

If you want to include what’s ‘behind’ the layer then you will need to create a Slice manually rather than via the Layers Panel.

Ah! That explains it. Thanks! I always thought of a slice as just that, a slice through all layers. Would be great if one could change indluded layers in the slice setting as the pre-creation of a grid to be exported is way easier just using rectangles/shapes as a basis for the slice guide.

Or, is there an easier way to do what I'm trying to do here? I got an image with a grid based layout, I wanna cut out each separate grid as a smaller image and save as a separate file. One way would be to double up the layer underneath to be a child layer of each rectangle in the grid I suppose? But that seems cumbersome as there's hundreds of these gridsquarres I wanna export. Any sollution or is it creation of each slice manually?

Yes. Created the squares for the grid in draw persona and then created slices from them. But @GarryP pointed out that these only creates slices for that layer, so question now is if there's a simple workaround to automaticly create slices that don't only conform to the layer of the object they where created from? Or the solution kan be to duplicate the layer underneath i want to include as a child layer to the rectangles. But as I wrote it's hundrets of these squares I wanna export so a bit cumbersome.

This should work if I understand your document layout correctly
