Hi @NiKu and welcome to the forums,

Can you use File → Save as Package, save to a new empty folder, zip the folder contents and upload the zip file so we can take a look?

Which PDF Export Preset are you using to export your file?

I'm not sure if I can go public with the file given that it's a project for one company

Does the preview appear?

How long have you waited?

What fonts are you using?

Some fonts can cause the preview  time and the export time to each be over 10 minutes.

Let it sit for awhile and see if it responds.

You can DM it to me if you feel OK doing so (though I appreciate that may still not be an option) or you can request a private Dropbox link from Serif where you can upload the file/s so they can take a look...

Preview for export in pdf appears, but when I click export, nothing appears....

How long have you waited?
I wait a very long time and the whole fillet freezes so I have to force quit with affinity.

What fonts are you using? I use font Reckles and Matter, but when I create a package, several fonts appear, how can I selectively remove these fonts because I don't see them in the document in reality.

thank you very much for your help, the magazine is not out yet and I would not like to have any problems. How do I contact the Serif to request a private dropbox link?

That's no problem at all. Someone on the Serif Team will automatically pick up this thread and provide a link for you.

An issue raised in this thread ("Export hangs on user file") has now been reported to the developers by the testing team (Ref: AF-4971). Thank you very much for reporting this issue to us.

Will I get a solution soon, I'm a little short on the deadline for sending the document. Thanks in advance!

I tried on another computer that also has publisher installed and I have the same problem. Now I created a new document where I manually copy page by page and it won't export again, this is terribly frustrating.

When I try to export, my whole document freezes and I have to force quit the whole Affinity Publisher, every time. I desperately need help

Hi @NiKu,

This suggests there is something in your Publisher file causing the export issue...

I don't know how many pages are in your document but if you export page 1 only, does it export? If it does, export pages 1-2, then 1-3 to see if it exports and repeat until you find the point where the export fails...

If you have loads of pages e.g., 100 pages narrow it down first by exporting pages 1 to 50 and then 51 to 100 as a starting point and if one of those page ranges doesn't export but the other one does, narrow down the problem pages range by splitting it in half and in half again and so on until you locate the problem page or pages...

Once you've identified the page or pages causing the export issue, toggle the layer visibility off for all the layers on the problematic page and then turn them on one by one and export just that page on its own until you find the specific layers causing the problem.

Depending on the layer or layers causing the problem you'll then need to investigate what it is about the layer that is causing the problem, e.g., if it is a placed vector file it's quite likely that there will be one or more particular nodes causing the export failure...

Try the above and let us know how you get on or whether you're unable to export even a single page...

It doesn't work, it blocks on the first one, then I force quit, and so on, the whole file is in some kind of bug. I will simply have to start over, the work I have been doing for a month or more...

I am also, suddenly, unable to export to pdf using Affinity Publisher and the Books feature. But, I've found a workaround that is still working for me!

To export to PDF without crashing:

• Uncheck Preview Export When Complete

• Have a minimum of 2 Books (chapters) open

Detail: I have been working on a nonfiction book. It has 14 “Books” and about 260 pages. Includes 20 two-page image spreads, and 30 smaller images throughout the book.

I was running Affinity 1 fully updated on Mac OS Sonoma. Suddenly, Affinity Publisher started crashing on export to PDF, evidenced by the forever spinning MAC color wheel. Had to force quit.

After several attempts to diagnose, including printing to various PDF presets and clearing all preflight issues, I updated to Affinity Publisher 2, same issue. Updated to Mac OS Sequoia, same issue. That’s when I unchecked the Preview Export When Complete field per a comment in this forum. Didn't work, but I noticed that the export was working when I had at least 2 books open. So far, the export is still working as long as I follow the above workaround. Good luck!

thank you, I'll keep that in mind for the future, I reworked this document in a way that I imported the pdf of that file that I could export before (while I was sending it for revision from before, luckily I had that pdf), inside affiniti. But I had to fix it and enter the texts from the beginning because the text box was messed up a lot during the import. I had a totally busy weekend.
