Hi, my name is David Sheppard. I recently purchased the full complement of Affinity Publisher, Designer and Photo. I'm unsure whether I am doing something wrong, but every time I work in Publisher and save my work, the work saves the work in Affinity Photo.  I have scanned the settings several times but cannot find anything.  Is this normal?  Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks.

Hi @David Sheppard and welcome to the forums,

When you say your Publisher files are saving as Affinity Photo files, do you mean they show an Affinity Photo logo in Windows Explorer or open in Affinity Photo when you double-click the file?

What file extension do the saved files have, .afpub or .afphoto?

The file formats are completely interchangeable meaning you can open a file from Publisher, Photo or Designer in any of the three apps but it shouldn't be possible to save a file directly from Publisher as a .afphoto file, they should save with a .afpub file extension so it may just be that you need to change the file type association for .afpub files under the Default App settings / Choose default application by file type...

Let us know the outcome...

G'day Hangman,

Thank you for responding.

Yes, each file shows the Affinity Photo logo and opens in Photo.  Yet again, I have gone through the App settings and cannot find "default application by file type."  What heading does that come under, or is it by another name?

Please excuse my vacancy for a computer talk...!

Hey @David Sheppard,

This is a Windows rather than an Affinity App setting...

  1. On Windows go to Settings
  2. Select Apps
  3. From the list on the left, select Default Apps
  4. Scroll down and select Choose default Application by File Type
  5. You should now see a long list of file extensions and to the right of each file extension the default app used to open a file with that file extension
  6. Scroll down until you find .afpub and you'll see it shows the Affinity Photo 2 icon to the right
  7. Click the Affinity Photo 2 icon and select Affinity Publisher 2 from the popup list
  8. The .afpub file extension should now show the Affinity Publisher icon
  9. All .afpub files should now show the Affinity Publisher icon in Windows Explorer but if not reboot your PC
  10. Double-clicking an Affinity Publisher icon in Windows Explorer should now open Affinity Publisher instead of Affinity Photo

Let us know how you get on and if that fixes the issue for you...
