DelN Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Hi, I've been working Affinity Photo 2.5.5 for a while now, but today I was trying to use the Clone Tool... by converting the layer to a pixel layer by Rasterising the layer, then using ALT-click to select an area to copy from, but nothing was painted. I tried it several times, closed the file and opened it up again, closed the program and opened it up again, and it still produced nothing when painting from a selected area using ALT-Click. Nor will it work in any other file... And I use this tool all the time... I also Reset the Brushes in Edit/Settings/Miscellaneous/Reset Brushes, then closed and reopened Affinity Photo. Still not working... Any ideas? Thanks. DelN Quote

It may be that you have a fully transparent pixel layer that you are alt clicking on and the Context toolbar is set to Current Layer. Set it to Current Layer and Below. DelN Posted November 5, 2024 Author Posted November 5, 2024 Thanks, Old Bruce. I only had one layer in the file (.png). I was using Affine to create a seamless horizontal line and so there were no other layers. However, you suggesting that, I went and checked in Source settings and it was set to Layers Beneath. When I changed it to Current Layer, it worked fine. So thank you again. You're a star. You have solved the riddle... 😀 DelN Quote

Shouldn’t the ‘Layers Beneath’ option be disabled when there aren’t any layers beneath? [sarcasm/] This would take all the fun out of Affinity apps and dry out the questions section of the forum. [/sarcasm] There is almost no UI tool which becomes greyed out or disabled when it creates unusable results. A lot of UI elements interact in uncountable ways, so e.g. switching layers would create a stroboscopic effect.
