AristideTorchia Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Not a bug as such, just a missing shortcut oversight: one can shortcut going to pixel or export persona but not back to the main designer persona, since only the first two have their respective menu shortcuts present in preferences. GarryP Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Are you looking in the correct category, i.e. Pixel / File? See attached image for Windows Settings. Quote
AristideTorchia Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 Thanks Garry, that's the one! The confusion comes from the fact that the actual menu category on the macOS top strip remains to be 'affinity designer 2' regardless of the persona you're in, while in preferences it is split into other categories – so a slight discrepancy there. GarryP Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 You’re welcome. By “top strip” do you mean title bar of the application window, or something else? Would you be able to give some full-screen (whole application UI) screenshots showing what the discrepancy is? (I don’t use macOS so I don’t really know what’s supposed to happen there but someone else might.) Quote
AristideTorchia Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 It's not a big deal at all. Contrary to Windows, macOS always displays the menu strip at the top of the screen, dynamically switching content in accordance to the currently-selected app. The first category is always the name of the app, so in this case it's "Affinity Designer 2". Designer Persona, Pixel Persona and Export Persona are all under the "Affinity Designer 2" category, but when you try and find the designer persona under the that very category in the app's shortcut preferences, it's nowhere to be found – instead it's under a category that does not defacto exist within the strip, namely "Pixel Persona". Like I said, it's no big deal at all and possibly some coding limitation or streamlining to keep mac and windows versions easier to manage across. Quote
GarryP Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 As far as I can remember (from OS X, a while back), the first bit of text on the left of the system main menu is not a “category”, it’s just the name of the application and that’s always the same for the particular application that you’re using and, because the Personas are not part of the application name, the Persona name will not be shown there. When you select what I called a “category” (a quick word used instead of a longer explanation) earlier in the Settings / Shortcuts dialog you are selecting either a Persona (top drop-down) or an ‘area of functionality’ (second drop-down). In the Settings / Shortcuts dialog you should first select the Persona you want to change the shortcut in and then select the ‘area of functionality’. I cant see anything that needs to be changed here, apart from making the whole Shortcuts panel easier to use in general (which has been requested many times). Quote
AristideTorchia Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 It's all in the pictures I have attached, really, regardless of whether you choose to refer to the first tab as a category or not – it does hold a menu of items, as you can see in the pics, and it does contain all three personas there, which the app's preferences split into separate tabs, hence my initial confusion. As I said, it's hardly an issue, it's utter fluff. Quote
Old Bruce Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 If you are in the Designer persona there is no need to switch to the Designer persona, same as if you are in the Pixel persona there is no need to switch to the Pixel persona. That is why the names are missing, you are already there. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
AristideTorchia Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 Gents, you both seem to be missing the point that I'm making, even as I do understand the respective points each of you are making Really, it's all good, subject closed, fluff, not important. Quote
