Wosven
Long ago, when we did bichromie (usually 2 Pantone colors) documents, XPress and live colors were very usefull. We used to give our printer a CMYK document, with only 2 plate colors (for example Black and Magenta, and told him which Pantone to use with which plate). We used a trick to simulate the 2 Pantone mix, the same way we would mix Magenta and Black color. For example, we created swatches : 100% Magenta 100% Black 25% Magenta + 25% Black 25% Magenta + 50% Black 50% Magenta + 50% Black … We lokked at CMYK values for the choosen Pantone swatches, and did a second document where the swatch "100% Magenta" = CMYK values of Pantone A, "50% Magenta + 50% Black" = 50% (CMYK value for Pantone A) + 50% (CMJK value for Pantone B)… This trick was usefull for printing on our deskjet printer and give clients a printed version — yes, they wanted paper, not PDF, since our deskjet printer was better than theirs — with colours similar to the end result. When it was validated, we only had to replace our "fake" colors by the ones from another document using same name but only Magenta and Black, create our PDF and send for print. We used channel mixer layer on images or simply filled layers with mask from the channels to simulate the same results, or greyscale image with pathes to import and color parts of logos in our documents. Using 2 complementary Pantone colors or well choosen colors this way give really interesting results, and when I find one of those old documents, I think we did a lot with less app' and less possibilities
Stephen_H
Ah yes. The days when we had to hack the system to get fancy results. I still remember attaching Pantone swatches to litho positives.
