Hi @fuz and welcome to the forums,

This is working for me on Windows 10 in 2.6.0.2805... Does it work if you hold the Ctrl Key down while dragging the image to your Affinity file?

If not, can you provide the URL of the website from which you're copying the image so we can test it?

This is something we do have logged (although isn't a new issue to the beta) and I think is potentially down to a 'format' (FileDrop) Firefox adds to the clipboard.

If you go to Edit > Paste Special and select Device Independant Bitmap it should allow you to the paste the image onto your document

I think those images are in AVIF format in website.

Windows

  • If I drag and drop an AVIF file from the web to Publisher nothing is copied
  • If I Ctrl Drag I get a Failed to Place message
  • If I Copy and Paste the image is Pasted as a PNG file

Mac

  • If I drag and drop an AVIF file from the web to Publisher the image is copied as a TIFF file
  • If I Ctrl Drag I get a Failed to Place message
  • If I Copy and Paste the image is Pasted as a PNG file

Hi thanks for your replys,

Should of mentioned Its for Designer and Publisher don't know about Photo as I don't often use it. I haven't had this problem in any other beta version.

So if I drag and drop, something I didn't realise I could do, the image appears, if I copy image thats where I get the text box with the web address for the image. It seems to be any image format. I

Are you in a position to share the URL so we can see why the behaviour you're seeing differs?

I don't have DuckDuckGo installed but certainly, from Chrome on Windows and Chrome and Firefox on Mac I can happily Copy and Paste, Drag and Ctrl Drag the image without issue to both Publisher and Designer...

I'm unsure if there are any issues or restrictions when doing so from other Browsers... I'd be surprised if there were especially from a Wikipedia page...

Hi @_Th,

I believe this is a Browser-specific issue...

If you use Paste Special in Publisher after copying the image from both Firefox and Chrome (and I assume DuckDuckGo) you'll see...

Firefox Left | Chrome Right

Paste.png.3c8b7b555769f9067e124254b11e07d0.png

If after copying from Firefox, you select Device Independent Bitmap from Publisher's Paste Special dialog, the image will paste as an image rather than pasting the URL...

Is it possible to map a shortcut directly to one of these options?

95% of the time, I want to paste as device independent bitmap (exact pixels on my clipboard) regardless of dpi metadata. Paste Special is mappable, but I still need to manually select from the this.

This all seems to get rather complicated, why not just use the download link under the image? 😉
