RichardMH
As far as I can see, to get to Refine Image for subject selection I have to click on the Selection Brush first. Maybe I'm missing something. Hangman
I think this is effectively the same bug as: AF-4746 - App crashes when using Select Subject on a blank document I'm reporting it just in case, purely because it is another method of causing Publisher and Photo to crash... With a Placed file, e.g., a PDF or SVG, even with the file selected in the Layers panel, using Select → Select Subject will cause Publisher to crash... Staff Patrick Connor Posted October 31 Author Staff Share Posted October 31 Sorry but due to the functions we need to run the Object Selection and Subject Selection functionality (on macOS) we are going to have to make Machine Learning only available on Apple Silicon machines running on a recent macOS, so in the next build the Machine Learning libraries will not be available to download so it cannot crash. Sorry this limitations was not already in for the start of the beta. manu schwendener
> the Object Selection Tool does a much better job That's true. I have a UX wish for Object Selection: when I click on the owl icon, my cursor becomes a really small watch (hard to see if it's a watch at all and zooming doesn't help). This makes me click around further in the picture, because I don't know that I'm supposed to just wait a moment. Can the watch icon be replaced by a spinner? Or even a progress bar? Edit 16.11.2024: this is now much better, replaced by the moving bar to indicate "please wait" Edited November 16 by manu schwendener Hangman and Andy05 2 Quote manuschwendener.ch

A progress bar would certainly be a helpful and welcome addition though I have no idea whether this is a process that can be time-calculated... JhonatanS
By watching these test sent on this threads, I've downloaded the original photos from @Juhani, and I've used Canva background remover, which is the one that I use a lot when needed, it deliveries an incredible result, almost perfect I would say mainly on the hair and separation. Can't Affinity have access to this same resource tool as they are now same company? Here is the Result from Canva. in addition to what Juhani shared. oJAHRASTAo
For what its worth I was getting constant crashes, only installed one at a time etc. I changed the setting from CPU and GPU, to just use CPU, and everything is working. My results have been pretty good, but using it against mechanical parts with hard edges against the background. I have not messed with anything organic or more complex with regards to contrasting of elements. CPU only is pretty slow, but I'm on an older workstation. For reference my GPU is an old GTX 780, which is probably why I was seeing crashes. In any case, super stoked to see it in the mix, as it is an well needed feature to compete against the others. Without it, I simply can't completely adopt considering the time and effort savings it is capable of.
