Running a Mac studio OS 14.7 and Publisher 2.5.5. Working on the TOC of a book and setting up tabbing with leaders. There's just one line that will not tab/leader correctly to save my life! (See attached screen shot.) I've tried looking for hidden characters around the page number, verified type size on the page title, re-set tabs for that line only, tried setting tabbing on that line a little shorter, and so on. Will not put leaders and page number on the same line.

Any suggestions would be most welcome...

It's hard to tell what's going on with View Special Characters off. But you haven't set up the tabs for the TOC the normal way. You have set a right indent so the numbers aren't aligned with the edge of the text frame, and then you've used a left-aligned tab instead measured from left instead of a right-aligned tab measured from right. Perhaps if you could share the page containing the TOC we could help with the formatting.

Good luck

Wow, Mike TO! Thanks for the instant feedback.

This sounds really messed up doesn't it? Just beginning the import from the Word file provided by the client and it is obvious I haven't been troubleshooting first before trying to set things up correctly. Thank you for those good calls. Can you help me understand why View Special Characters would help?

Would send you the page now, but I totally junked the old version and started fresh. This is my first book project with Publisher instead of InDesign (or Quark, back in the day) and I'm not impressed with how accommodating it's not being, especially with changes in fonts and other formatting.

I'm going to quit for tonight, but first thing in the morning I'm going to go under View and say "Show Special Characters" and see what pops into sight. I'm also going to hit that TOC again. If I run into trouble, I'll honk and upload the page, hoping for your help again.

Show Special Characters will reveal the presence of invisible characters that could impact the flow of that line of text. Some people find it distracting and turn it on only when they have a problem, but others prefer to work with it on all the time to keep an eye on things. This isn't specific to Affinity.

Cheers
