sflomenb
I am trying to create the icon of a person in Affinity Designer. I made one half of the person with the Pen tool, and then I try to make the other half by duplicating the path, transform by flip horizontal and then move it into place. It looks ok, but when I zoom in, there is a gap that is smaller than a pixel. How can I fix this? Nothing I do gets rid of that gap.

Staff MEB Posted July 7, 2016 Staff Share Posted July 7, 2016 Hi sflomenb, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) This is a side effect of the way Affinity (and other software) renders the objects on screen. This should only be visible at arbitrary zoom levels. If you set your view to 100% zoom, 200% 400% and so on (x2), they shouldn't appear. It also doesn't affect the output. To solve this you you can join them to create a single object from both parts To do it select both parts, then click on the Add icon in the Geometry Operations section. If you want to keep them separated in case you need to adjust the silhouette later, press and hold ⌥ (option/alt) to create a compound shape instead. If you go to the Layers panel and click on the arrow near the thumbnail of the compound shape you can still access and edit both parts independently. MEB, I made them a single object using the add icon but I still see the line. Any other ideas? One of the screenshots I've added in this post is zoomed to 158.3%. I guess as long as it's not "actually" there it doesn't really matter. Edit again: I don't see it when I export.
Staff MEB Posted July 7, 2016 Staff Share Posted July 7, 2016 Are the straight parts of each half pixel aligned? Did you have Force Pixel Alignment checked when you start drawing them? This can also be an antialiasing issue. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference | Call for Camera Images
