Hi,

I am trying to make a pattern from a selected product photo but the duplicated images are too close to one another (see att.)

I suppose it is because, logically enough, they use the boundaries of the pixel selection to produce the pattern.

Is there a way to tell affinity to include margins around the selection in order to have more space between the duplicated images?

Working with shapes works because you can leave space around when drawing you shape but you cannot with a pixel selection.

I also need transparency around the product so that I can modify the background color as much as I want so:

- merging a coloured rectangle with the selection to enlarge the boundaries makes the process tedious because you need to go through it again every time you want to change the background colour so that the colours of the rectangle around the product matches the background colour.

- I also tried merging the selection with a transparent square but it's not registered as such and I am back to the boundaries of the selection.

I hope I am making sense here but thanks in advance for your help!

Place a rectangle shape above the pixel layer
Set Opacity to 1%
Merge down
New Pattern Layer From Selection

Great! I sensed the rectangle trick was the right solution but didn't think of the 1% opacity.

Thanks a lot David
