I'm struggling with the erasing tool. Can someone help?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm struggling trying to use the eraser tool. I want to eraser certain parts of my line created from the shape tool, but it will only allow me to rasterize the shape first, which makes it very pixelated in order to erase it. How do I make it less pixelated.

Hi BieschkeTR12,

When you use the Eraser Tool (from Pixel Persona) over a vector object, Affinity Designer creates a (raster) mask and attaches it to the object (you can access it clicking on the small arrow near the object's thumbnail in the Layers panel). It's not rasterising the vector object - it still remains as a vector object -, only the mask is raster based, that's why you see the boundaries of the erased parts pixelated. Currently there's no vector based eraser in Affinity Designer.

If you want to keep everything as vectors you have to use the Node Tool and edit the nodes of the shape directly or use geometry operation (Add, Subtract etc) to help create the objects you want. Let me know if you still have trouble or a specific file/project where you are having issues.
