Hello!

I observe the problem with inserting special character, while being clicked directly into text frame (I-beam ico active), select right mouse for under mouse menu. I do not remember the same problem in Publisher v1.

In this case, if I choose Insert Special Character from mouse menu, this new character remove my word or sign existed in the text before, because, during any click right mouse button, Affinity Publisher selects automatically the word/ sign before (if the pointer is behind this word/ sign without any space character, see picture below) or after the pointer (if the pointer is before the word/ sign without any space character) and exchanges word with selected special character choosen from menu.
Inserting more space/ spaces doesn't help, Publisher select nearest word/ special character (if exists).

The right menu use is useless in this scenario, only one way to insert anything is Main Menu of the application, what is really frustrating and costs the time.

Any chance to fix this error?

V1 behaves the same was as V2 in this regard. If the mouse is over a word, and you right-click, the word will be selected. I believe this is so you can perform the various right-click actions on the word, such as handling spelling corrections. But it also allows converting the word to a Field, copying or cutting, changing its capitalization, etc.

If you want to use the Insert Special Character functions, what you can do is move the mouse slightly to the right (so it is definitely over the space, if there is one) and then right-click. Then you won't select/highlight the word.

Here's an example of each behavior, first with the mouse over the word, then with the mouse moved slightly to the right of the text cursor, so it is over the space.

I'm not sure if there's a better way of handling this, given that the program has no way of predicting which of the right-click context menu actions the user will be performing.

Anyway, I hope this helps you understand what's happening, and gives you some thoughts on the workaround, which depends on the position of the mouse pointer, not the text cursor.

Hi!

Thanks for this tip, it works exactly.

I tried to place the mouse cursor somewhere else, more to the right, but I always ended up selecting, this time the right word, as you can see in my picture, hence my post about the problem.
I need a more gentle click, apparently")

It's possible that V1 behaves the same, but I haven't used V1 too much, still stuck to Adobe ;)

Thanks again.

You're welcome.

When the Developers review your Feedback, perhaps they will find some way to  make it a bit less sensitive.
