Hi. I’m using the Affinity apps on a Mac. I usually keep my screen resolution at 2560X1440. Sometimes I switch to 1920X1080 when I’m having a hard time seeing small items on the screen.

I find Affinity’s interface and icons to be pretty small so I’ve tried switching my resolution to 1920X1080 but Affinity doesn’t intelligently resize everything. Instead most everything, including the toolbar, is offscreen.

Is there a quick way to fix this?

Thanks,

Skylamar

First, I'd suggest going into Accessibility->Zoom and enabling (in my case Control+mouse slide up/down) and using that when you can't see something. I have good eyes and I still use it all day long. It becomes unconscious - you just do it without thinking.

But if the Apple system settings won't let you work at 1920... that's odd, but I'd suggest trying SwitchResX, which will almost certainly solve the problem. It unlocks a lot of resolutions/refresh rates etc. that the system prefs don't show. I believe there's a free trial.

What monitor are you using, just out of interest? And are you using an adapter of unknown pedigree, for example a USB->HDMI one?

You might try Window > Zoom from the Menu after changing the screen resolution, @skylamar.

Ah, better answer. Yes, that should resize it.

But while we're off the subject, SwitchResX is worth trying anyway, because also unlocks HiDPI resolutions. Technical explanation aside, that makes the picture sharper if you zoom in (using [ctrl+mouse up/down]).

I switch resolutions using an app called Displays. It may be similar to SwitchResX.

I hadn't heard of that one. It does seem to overlap with SwitchResX, in fact it has a lot of other features like picture-in-picture that could be very useful for people who only have one monitor.

The one thing I didn't see is whether it identifies HiDPI resolutions. That makes a big difference when you're zooming in - that is, macOS zooming, not option-sliding inside Affinity programs.
