smi
Roughly said: after saving a publisher document with PC A (iMac) on our company's server, it opens differently on one special PC B (MacBook). While the file is loading, it already shows the thumbnails in the page panel, but when loading is complete, the last saved pages are not shown and seem to be totally gone. Even if the images would be linked to a dead link, the respective pages as well as a blury version of the image should be visible. I tried to save the document as .afpub and .afpackage, just to be sure, but this also occures when all images are embedded. So a lost server connection cant be the reason. Or does Affinity struggle when the connection was lost temporarily? Anyway, it works for all our iMacs, no problem. So what could be the point for the MacBook? Hangman
Hi @smi and welcome to the forums, Are you opening the file on the MacBook directly from the server or has the file been copied to the MacBook's internal Hard Drive before being opened? smi
In the end we tried both and the result was the same. Interestingly, what happened at the beginning: the file was opened in this weird way on the MacBook when it was unconnected. After it has been loaded to the server, it worked out well. At that time I was still thinking about dead links, but this problem occured even in later situations with a connection to the server and embedded images. As a test, if you open a version of the file on the MacBook directly from the server where you see the last saved missing pages, make an obvious edit to the file then save it using an amended filename back to the server, does the updated file then open with the change shown when opened using the iMac... It does sound like a sync issue but I think you'd need to run a few tests to determine for sure... smi
Weird in the way that the latest saved changes are visible in the page panel thumbnails but not when finally loaded. Lets bring it down to this question: Why is it possible that changes, new pages and so on are visible in the thumbnails, but are gone when finally loaded? That makes little sense but suggests the file you're opening on the MacBook is the fully updated file... Are you in a position to share the file where you see the pages in the Pages panel but not in the document body? smi
Ah, I got your "sync" point. But literally at the same time the file opened correctly on a colleague's iMac. I can try to share the file or a screenshot later the day, but I guess this MacBook is hard in use. I can describe the procedure more precisely: There is popping up a window when you open an packed file (implemented fonts, images, ...). At this time Affinity stops loading I guess and you can see the thumbnails at the page panel. After clicking on "OK" the thumbnails disappear and are also not available in the document body. Hangman
Okay... If you can share the .afpackage file later that would be a great help... 4 minutes ago, smi said: There is popping up a window when you open an packed file (implemented fonts, images, ...). Usually, when opening an .afpackage file you would just see the dialog window but no thumbnails in the Pages panel... The other consideration is that if you are using Save as Package, any changes made to the original .afpub file after saving as a package won't be reflected in the .afpackage itself...
