Mick001 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Hi, I thought I would post this just in case someone has the same problem. I updated Affinity Photo 2 to version 2.5.5. When I tried to export a photo that I finished editing, the program would always freeze. Then when I updated Affinity Designer 2 and Affinity Publisher 2 to version 2.5.5. Then Affinity Photo 2 stopped freezing when I tried to export a photo. It looks like if you update one program, then you need to update the other ones to the same version. I am using windows 11 on a desktop computer. Cheers Michael Quote
GarryP Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Welcome to the forums @Mick001 While it is usual to update all of the applications to the same version at (pretty much) the same time, to keep StudioLink working at the very least, I wouldn’t expect that updating only one application would stop that particular one from working until the others were also updated. Can you remember which version(s) the applications were before you updated Photo? Also, how did you do the update process? Did you update from within the application or did you manually download and install something? Quote
scgstudio Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I have exact same problem. I have 16kx16k image and after updating to 2.5.5 export just stopped working. Looks like there is problem with gpu as youtube webpage is disabled after the crush. I have updated Designer too and it is still the same. after disabling aceleration and gpu calculations crash is still present but it is not affecting other programs. Crush is happening during generating preview ( png and jpg ). If I make document size to 1024x1024 all is fine. Crush happens during preview if image is 2048x2048 or greater. If I will find more details I will post them here. If my file will be needed for any investigations, let me know, I will send where you need it. EDIT: All works well. After massive crash ( entire pc was non responsive at-all ) I restarted it and Photo works just as expected. All performance options are active, still all is good. Looks like after the update computer restart is at least recommended. Quote
Mick001 Posted September 13, 2024 Author Posted September 13, 2024 Hi, The version I had was 2.3.1 before I updated it to 2.5.5. Affinity Photo 2 would just freeze every time I tried to export photos. I update all three of the programs from within the applications. Even when I updated Affinity Photo 2 and Affinity Designer 2. Affinity Photo 2 still kept freezing when I tried to export a photo. It only stopped freezing when updated Affinity Publisher 2 as well. Cheers Michael Quote
GarryP Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Thanks for the extra information. Hopefully someone with more knowledge in this area will be able to help further. Mick001 1 Quote
JayDeeDee Posted October 23, 2024 Posted October 23, 2024 (edited) I have the same problem with Affinity Photo 2.5.5 When I select the menu item “File > Export”, the export dialog no longer opens and the program freezes. While the program itself no longer responds, the memory consumption and processor load of its process in the Windows Task Manager remain inconspicuous. After pressing the Escape key - which could close an export dialog that is actually open - the program is operable again. Initially, after this error occurred, I refrained from updating Affinity Designer. After reading this post, I ran the update for the Designer program in the hope that it would fix the bug in Affinity Photo. The export in Affinity Designer still works with the current version, but the bug in Affinity Photo unfortunately remains. Does anyone know a solution for this problem? Often that happens when users sometimes use multiple monitors, but currently have one of them turned off. The program has displayed the dialog on the monitor that is not operating, and is waiting for a response there. Could that explain your case? JayDeeDee Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately it can't. The problem occurs whether I use my second monitor or not. Quote
JayDeeDee Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 FYI: walt.farell's suggestion solved the issue in my case. Quote

Every time I would try to export an image in Affinity Photo it would become unresponsive and I would have to use the task manager to force quit the application. I recently found that if I hit escape it would become interactive again. I have 3 monitors, but one is usually off. The export dialog was appearing on that one. 😞 Thanks for your support, it was driving me crazy. mopperle 1 Quote
walt.farrell Posted May 13 Posted May 13 You're welcome, and thanks for confirming the cause. I would recommend keeping all the monitors active, but Affinity really should have better code to detect and handle this situation.
