Layer Lock icon

Recommended Posts

There is a way to do it. Mouse over the layer in the panel where the lock icon would be if it was locked - the lock icon will appear for you to click it. The feature is a bit hidden to avoid cluttering up the panel.

Oh sorry, this is the iPad forum. On iPad you must either:

  • tap the More (...) icon and then you can tap Lock
  • swipe left on the layer and then tap Lock

Thanks! My question is why is the functionality this way? Not so much is how can I lock the layer. I just would’ve liked an even easier way to lock the layer. If there is room to show and tap the padlock to unlock the layer, why not add the functionality to lock it there also? I guess it’s UI question. No worries either way.

It's possible on the Desktop, but on the desktop the application has more capabilities for showing things based on hovering over them. So, on the desktop in the Layers panel, if the mouse approaches the area where the lock icon would be, it appears (faintly) and you can click it.

On the iPad, except with an actual mouse or trackpad (or, recently with the Apple Pencil Pro) there's no way for hover to work. As many users work with their fingers, or an older Apple Pencil, a different method was needed. (That's my guess why it was designed as it currently is.)
