Where i merge layers menu

Recommended Posts

Hi @peterjohnreid11 and welcome to the forums.

Merging layers is something normally done in Photo - you can do it while running Publisher if you switch to the Photo persona by clicking its icon in the main toolbar.

You wouldn't normally want to merge the layers created when opening an IDML file created with InDesign. Or did you open a PDF and want to merge various text objects into one text object? If it's the latter, ensure that when you open the PDF you select "Group lines of text info text frames'. I also recommend selecting "Favour editable text over fidelity".

Good luck

Online sugests it is under the layers menu

When you are reading the Online Help, make sure that you are reading the Help which is relevant to the Affinity application (and the correct version) which you are using. (It's very easy to find the help for the wrong application and/or version when searching online.)

A good place to start is here: https://affinity.help/

To avoid that issue when searching online, it helps to add a "site" search term.

For example, you can add site:affinity.help/photo2 or site:affinity.help/designer2 or site:affinity.help/publisher2 when searching for Help for one of the Affinity V2 apps. Then you don't get Help for the wrong V2 app, or one of the V1 apps.

all useful info, it was an pdf file but the native indesign file was grayed out? Before buying I did try to open a 200 page indesign doc. and it looked great. I'm suffering from ' I know what I doing in indesign ' and don't like to take the time/don't have the time to learn in affinity.

Long and short of it is there a merge command for layers in publisher, I'm sure I included published in my search parameters. I did find the work around using group layers but its not ideal.

Thank you for your time

You can't open an InDesign INDD file in Publisher, but you can open an InDesign IDML file. IDML is an option when you save from InDesign.

There is a merge layers feature in Publisher - switch to the Photo persona, select the layers in the panel, right-click them and choose Merge Selected (and there are other options such as Merge Visible and Merge Down). But is this really what you want to do?
