Photo 2 not launching after installation

Recommended Posts

Hi @Gedward,

Does anything at all happen when you launch the app, e.g., do you see the Affinity Photo splash screen, does the icon bounce in the dock to indicate it's launching?

You could try running a factory reset by holding the Ctrl key while launching the app. If you see the 'Clear User Data' window, leave the first three options selected then hit the Clear button and see whether or not it launches...

Did you purchase from the Affinity Store or the Apple App Store?

Will try the Ctrl key step.

Okay, let us know whether that does or doesn't work...

I take it you don't see the Splash screen is that correct?

Strange that when I hit the TAB button I don't see the app. But when I hit the ESC button I do.

I'm not sure I follow, could you elaborate...

After trying to launch the app. It bounces for quite some time in the dock. When it stops no splash screen and if I hold the TAB key down I don't see it has loaded. But when I hold the ESC key down it shows up and i can force quit it from there. Even though it's not really loaded.

I know it's very strange.

So when you hold down Cmd Tab you see something like this but the Affinity Photo icon isn't shown...

Apps in dock on a Mac

But when you hit Opt Cmd Esc Affinity Photo appears in the list...

You could try the following:

  • Force Quit Finder then relaunch it then try launching Photo...
  • Deleting the app and reinstall using the .dmg file or if you've deleted the .dmg file download it again from the Affinity store...

Could you also confirm the specs of your iMac, i.e., RAM, free disk space etc.,

The only other thing I can think of trying is to delete the Affinity Photo .plist file in case it's corrupted...

If you go to:

  • FinderLibrary > Preferences (you can access the Library folder by holding the Option key and selecting it from the Go menu in the Finder)
  • Look for the plist file com.seriflabs.affinityphoto2.plist
  • Delete the plist file
  • See if Photo will launch

It should be further down the list since it's seriflabs rather than affinity...

Which I think suggests the app didn't install properly...

I'm at a loss as to what else to try... Hopefully, others in the forum will have some helpful suggestions. This thread will be picked up by someone in the moderation team as well so they may be able to suggest some alternative options to try...

One other thing you can try - create a new users on your computer and try launching Affinity from that account. If that works, there's something up with your current account.

After spending most of yesterday trying to launch the app, I have thrown in the towel.

I've been using PS since 1992 but I'm definitely NOT going back to Adobe, so I'll look for another app to use.

Hi @Gedward,

If you would like to try getting the apps running could you check if there are any crash reports being generated that we can take a look at? The FAQ below details how to find these.

Additionally, just to confirm did you try creating a separate MacOS user to launch the apps from as MikeTO suggested?

Thanks
