No scrolling of the screen when moving the mouse with the left mouse button pressed.

Recommended Posts

No scrolling of the screen when moving the mouse with the left mouse button pressed while selecting objects that are off the screen. The screen used to scroll showing elements off the screen, now it does not happen and if I want to select objects outside the view on the screen I have to zoom out the entire desktop. This bug affects all 3 programs in Windows 11.

I'm seeing the same behavior, on both Windows and macOS, in 2.5.5.

I think there's a glitch but it can be resolved, at least on macOS. Photo and Designer worked fine for me, the glitch was just in Publisher, but it could be due to an existing 2.5.3/2.5.4 studio setup and perhaps my setups in the other apps weren't impacted.

Publisher scrolled correctly if the studios were hidden but if they were visible, the hot spot for scrolling left and right was about 50% of the studio width. Vertical scrolling was fine.

I then changed the width of my studios and the problem went away, even when I restored the original size or chose my saved preset again.

This is working without issue for me across all three apps on both Mac and Windows in 2.5.5 when scrolling both vertically and horizontally...

Can anyone upload a screen recording demonstrating the issue...

I can't make a screen recording now because once I changed the width of my studio panels, the issue went away and there is no way to get it back. Resetting the studio or selecting a saved studio preset doesn't return me to the glitchy state. Three of us have definitely seen it so the problem does exist, I just don't know how to trigger it if you don't have the problem.

I only had the problem in Publisher but I don't know whether that's important or if the studio setups in the other apps didn't trigger the glitch.

No problem, perhaps either @GRAFKOM or @walt.farrell can upload a screen recording as it may give us some clues as to possible triggers...

I don't think that's the same issue (i.e. as shown in your video)

Moving an object around will scroll the screen but trying to scroll to select other objects, not in view, does not work

Which is also what I am seeing

It does not work for me in either Affinity V1 or V2, on my Windows laptop.

I agree it would be nice for it to work, but I have no idea if it ever did for marquee selection in the Affinity apps.

That's what I was wondering as well, it put a big '?' in my mind but @GRAFKOM believes that "It worked 100 per cent until recently." so I was hoping someone could check v1 to clarify...

I'm sure @thomaso can clarify if it works in v1 on Mac...

True. But the only place I know it worked is when making pixel selections with one of the pixel selection tools. It still works there. My suspicion is that it only ever worked there3, and that possibly @GRAFKOM has confused Marquee Pixel Selection and Marquee Object Selection in Affinity, or has confused what works in Corel with what does/doesn't work in Affinity.

Pink also does under certain conditions such as Polygonal mode releasing the mouse button to get a Straight line (then it scrolls)

What does you mean, does it scroll when you release the mouse button, means it jumps to the cursor if its outside the window?

To me in V1 this tool does not scroll, neither with button down nor up. Instead it is able to draw in a hidden, invisible area outside the current window, which gets visible if I scroll afterwards. This way it behaves similar to Paint Tools which also may draw "behind" panels or outside the window (on the canvas, not the pasteboard).

With the "Freehand" Tool Type + shift key pressed there is no auto-scrolling…

Bildschirmfoto2024-09-03um17_38_28.jpg.608ff5c0b0275ba622c2858686567a14.jpg

… but the selection marquee appears as soon the shift key gets released, regardless of the current mouse position outside the layout window:

Just tried in V1 and it does not scroll.

In V2 it scrolls with button up

Speaking of auto-scrolling in V2 vs. V1 when selecting:

Does it still auto-scroll in V2 when a Text Tool selects some text and exceeds the text frame and the window edge? Is this scrolling outside a text frame useful for any situation text frames without text flow (unlinked)? – And is it just me that with a text selection it scrolls immediately and + in full speed … while there is a delay + slow starting speed with the Move Tool?

Any more news on this?

It's kind of annoying having to zoom out each time to select objects just off the screen and zooming in and out while the selection box is active with mouse down produces another bug where the selection box disappears (as shown below).

Highly recommended open source screen capture software (useful for bug reports).

This thread hasn’t been given an official tag, and there have been no responses in it by staff members, so we have no way to tell if Serif have seen it, or consider it to be a bug if they have seen it.

Even if they have seen it, and consider it to be a bug, they usually don’t give us any timescales for possible changes.

I would recommend keeping up-to-date with the Beta news as it comes out: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/32-beta-software-forums/

If you Follow this thread you will receive notifications about it, and they might include messages from the Affinity Info Bot in the future telling you that it has been fixed.
