Presets saving as file

Recommended Posts

Would it be possible to make Photo have the ability to save as a file the presets in the develop persona

I don't want to have to make possibly hundreds, though not likely, of presets and pray that a crash doesn't happen, or I move to a new computer and find I have to do everything again

@RichiePhoto: Speaking only to your concern about having to redo things again after a crash or moving to a different computer, if you are taking good system backups you can always restore all of your Affinity Settings, Presets, etc. from the backups and replace the defaults on your new computer. This won't work easily if you switch from macOS to Windows or vice versa, but should work easily if you stay with the same kind of OS.

Just backup/restore using the directories and files shown in the FAQ:

Yes, it would be nice if there were a way for the user to perform a consolidated backup/restore if the applications' settings to a file/location of the user's choice. And especially if it would work across OS types.

But you already have a way to avoid the disaster you're envisioning, so I wanted to mention that here.

C'mon, I know you found the folder in another thread, but I'm asking the developers to make this more user accessible than save as a proprietary file, that is very hard to kind of back up

I mean, I can't begin to imagine backing up the keywords (metadata things) that is needed for my work. These small things can bring in a lot of money from photographers wishing to ditch other companies, especially one that has been in the news for various odious practices, and kicking in the teeth of semi-/pro photographers

That's fair. And as this is a feedback request, you can of course ask for whatever you want. (And I did say I agreed that having an easier way for the user to say "backup everything <here>" would be useful.

But you've asked for something very specific in your post here: the Presets from the Develop Persona Lens, Details, Basics, etc. panels. You didn't ask for them:

  • Not to be in a proprietary format.
  • To include the Metadata panel items (which are not Presets).

So, if nothing else, this conversation may be revealing that you need to provide more details or it's unlikely the developers will give you what you are really looking for.

By the way, as you've mentioned keywords, I'll mention that you can already save those, in case you haven't discovered it yet: In the Metadata panel, the panel options (3-bar "hamburger" menu) provides options to export/import the metadata using XMP files.
