If you do not want your personal data held by Serif/Affinity

(If you are signed in) You can sign out of the Affinity ID in the software but DO NOT unregister this device, just sign out.

Then you can emailing DataProtection@serif.com and request that your personal data is deleted. If your software is licensed through your Affinity ID account, then it will continue to function but you will NOT be able to install it licensed onto any new devices, as we will not have a record of your license, or hold any personal data on you, other than this forum account that you can also ask to be removed if you wish.

HOWEVER, if you do not want Canva to access your Affinity account data the email sent today titled "Privacy Policy Update" makes it clear this only happens for a few reasons, which should be easy to avoid, for example: Contacting Affinity Customer Services; Contacting Affinity Support; or taking part in optional user research. Avoiding these would allow you to continue to have your Affinity account and stay signed in and license the software on new hardware without your information being shared with Canva. To quote the email:

Going forward, Affinity may share your personal data within the Canva group, for example:
  • If you submit a product support request. We’re expanding our customer support using Canva employees, which means more staff, and more support coverage. Hence, the information you submit with your support request may be shared within the Canva group.
  • If you’re having a problem with your Affinity account. We may need to share your account details within Canva to resolve payment, access and other account issues.
  • If you choose to take part in user research, this may be run by Canva. The development of Affinity has always been community led, with your feedback shaping every version of Affinity so far. Voluntary research plays a big part in gathering this feedback.

You can find full details in our updated Privacy Policy at

As a EU citizen, where can I opt out of automatically "sharing" any of my data with Canva?

I have bought into the software and promises from Affinity and have no desire whatsoever to be gobbled up by some random AI outfit that for some reason seems to have swallowed a software company that has and had absolutely nothing in common with their core business.

Effing hate it.

Your personal data is not being automatically shared with Canva. The privacy policy makes clear what your options are, there is no specific way to do what you are asking, sorry.

I'm just sad that an independent company is gone, and that I can no longer ignore it. I don't trust the direction Canva is moving towards. 😢

That is fair, and obviously your call. Sorry you feel that way.

Don't be sorry, just make it an option, as required by EU law.

The above linked privacy policy is pointless as it does not address existing legal requirements.

Pro tip: You guys are certainly not the first or the biggest software company having their privacy policies or terms of use handed back to them by the courts. Just try and get it right and fair in the first place, don't give in to some lawyerish BS from the new BS owner.

You can do better than that, or at least you used to.

These sentences have the potential to start a wild and heated discussion. The legal matter is by far more complicated and I doubt what you postulate.

So to keep this forum a nice civilized place please don’t state your options as non-disputable facts about legal questions.
