Bryan Rieger Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Lately I've been having issues with selected layers jumping around, being offset from the mouse and location where I selected them, and/or disappearing altogether when I drag the mouse to reposition them. It doesn't happen every time (and it's very hard to duplicate), but it's happening enough to be annoying/concerning. Often if I let go of the mouse, and undo my action the layer(s) returns to where it was, and I can attempt to repeat my action - at which point it usually works just fine. It's not a critical bug, but the confusion can lead to momentary panic attacks. Affinity Designer 2.5.3 macOS 14.6.1, MacBook Pro, M1 Pro, 32GB Quote
walt.farrell Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Are you using Artboards in the documents where this happens, and if so do you have Edit All Layers enabled in the Layers panel, or disabled? Bryan Rieger Posted August 19, 2024 Author Posted August 19, 2024 I typically use Artboards, so I'm probably using them when it happens, and I always leave Edit All Layers enabled (although often there are no Layers on the artboard, just images, curves, groups, etc. The only layers that are moving are the ones that I have selected, but they aren't moving with my cursor/mouse as expected. They are either offset from the cursor (often by 1/2 screen of more) and or completely disappear. This is how I've always worked, and I've never had this problem until recently (2.5.x). Quote

They are either offset from the cursor (often by 1/2 screen of more) and or completely disappear. When you have Artboards, and you have Edit All Layers enabled, and you move an object in the workspace, and you stop moving the object while the object's bounding box intersects with an Artboard, the object will become part of that Artboard in the Layers panel. I can't think of a way that would cause the offset you describe. But it could cause an object to seem to disappear depending on your Artboard layout in the workspace and which Artboard is actually active in the Layers panel. With a layout that triggers this correct processing, the object will only be visible if its new parent Artboard is the active one in the Layers panel, and not the original Artboard it was part of before you moved it. So, when an object seems to disappear, check the Layers panel and make sure it isn't just in a different Artboard. Bryan Rieger Posted August 19, 2024 Author Posted August 19, 2024 Thanks @walt.farrell, but I’m pretty sure it’s not a layer/artboard problem in that I’ve never had the problem before in almost 10 years of using Designer. I’ll try and get a screen recording of the behaviour as I don’t think I’m doing a great job of describing it here. For me, it feels like a display/update bug, not a user or configuration error. walt.farrell 1 Quote
