Trying to Create LUT Using Swatches it is not Happening?

Hi Guys,

 

I am trying to create a LUT using a sample image and sampling colours from it. When I open Swatch select the image I want to sample colours from and then add a gradient adjustment layer to it and then click on the shadows and take the colour dropper to the darkest colour of the Swatch Sample created, the colour dropper does not select the intended colour, the colour is not getting selected. Can someone please tell me why is this happening ? what's going wrong here ?

After you've sampled your colour and released the picker, click the eyedropper icon once to apply the sampled colour.

The sampler isn't picking up the color from the swatches at all in that recording. Once it passes outside the workspace onto the Swatches panel it only seems to pick white.

In your video the picker seems to be corrupted: As soon you leave the layout/workspace area and hover over the panel bar the picked colour turns to white RGB 255 255 255) and doesn't get updated any more above other colours.

Why is it doing so ? And what is the solution ? How do I make it happening ?

Hi @augustya. Since you are using a Mac, does Affinity Photo have permission to record the screen? If not, this could be the problem. The setting is found at System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and has to be turned on for the color pickers to work properly. Check and make sure that the app has been given this permission.

What has screen recording got to do with Colour Picker getting corrupted. Just curious...

I mean this problem is happening even without when I do not do a Screen Recording.

As far as Apple is concerned, the color picker is "recording the screen".

But I don't think that's your problem, as the recording showed the picker's color well changing. It just didn't work outside the workspace.

Just wait until Sequoia, where apparently the permission for this will only be honored for one week, or until you restart the system.

I've just tried it on my macOS system, and color-picking from the Gradient Map adjustment using the Swatches panel works just fine for me.

I have no idea why it's not working for you. Have you tried restarting your application, or possibly restarting your Mac?

If that doesn't help, in the Gradient Map adjustment dialog, when you've clicked on the color for a node, and you have the HSL Color Wheel showing, the top field ("HSL Color Wheel") is actually a pull-down, and one of your choices in it is Swatches. So you could select that, and pick the Palette you just created, and select your color directly without using the color sampler in the dialog.

I have enabled screen recording in system settings in the MAC it was disabled, but that has not helped still the colour picker tool is not working.

 

I did not understand your latter part. Do you think you can show a screen shot or a screen recording?

Use the pulldown at the top of the color dialog where you choose the format you want the dialog to display (Wheel, RGB Sliders, etc.). Choose Swatches, and click the swatch you want to use. No need to sample.

Hey ! Thanks for the work around tip. That works.

 

But what do I do about my Colour picker not working I just paid for the License on the last day of the Half Price Sale. And now this...

Not a very heart welcoming gesture by the APP 😞

I wish some support guy from the Serif/Affinity Team helps me out here ?

I'm not sure, but given that it's local to your system and not a general problem it may be hard to figure out. 

Assuming you purchased directly from Serif, you have 14 days from purchase to ask for your money back, if this one thing is enough of a deal breaker to force you back to whatever you used before.

Otherwise you can try various other options like:

  • uninstall/reinstall; or
  • press/hold Ctrl while launching the app from Launchpad, and Reset the app. (Start with the first 3 options and see if they help. Progress to resetting other aspects that may seem related). Or
  • create a new user account and see if the app has the same problem running from that account.

Will uninstalling and reinstalling the app again help?
