I'm dabbling in Affinity Designer's colour pickers and am deeply puzzled by their RGB Hex Sliders vs RGB Sliders UI.

The numeric ranges seem the same so why have all that blank space with a much shorter palette?

v2.5.3 - is this just some bug? I cannot make sense of it design-wise

I think it’s just an ‘oddity’ of the UI, rather than something with any meaning.

Similar ‘oddities’ can be seen with the Colour Panel also.

Not a massive problem but maybe something that needs to be made into a feedback thread (or, preferably, added to an existing one).

I am not seeing quite the same thing on my Mac. The hex palette section is shorter, but only because additional room is needed for the hex #: field:

Maybe a Mac vs. Windows thing?

Andy's screenshots are from a Mac, but you are showing the Colour studio panel whereas he is showing a colour editor which appears when a Fill or Stroke colour is clicked in the Context Toolbar, FX  controls, and other places.

In my opinion that failure to make use of the available space should be classed as a bug.

There are similar but less extreme wastes of space when these sliders are switched to LAB or Greyness.
