Let's say I have a png image with a transparent background.

I use the method of grouping everything in my canvas, and adding the Quick FX > Outline.

But what if I want the bottom of the outline to be flat?  Only the bottom though.  And to fill the holes in the middle etc.
Currently I'm having to make white boxes with a clear stroke to do this.  I think there's a better way though.  Can I create a shape that's the perfect outline of all my objects on the canvas and then I can edit it?

I got it I think.

Group everything then duplicate it then hide the original then use the contour tool to make it a little bigger.
Then 'Bake Appearance'.  Then change the stroke and fill to white.  Then I can snap a new rectangle to the bottom of it and use the boolean 'Add'.
This works with basic things but if I have a gazillion layers it might get a little perilous to duplicate it all and bake it, dunno.
